Jeff Burdorf, FCE Heavyweight Champion and member of Overtime MMA/Top Notch successfully defended his title against Shane Bumbar.
Bumbar, a member of Power Martial Arts, tried to stand up with Burdorf but the fight quickly went to the ground. This was a quick fight in which Burdorf quickly dominated, took control and once on the ground, Burdorf applied his ground & pound.
Although Bumbar predicted a 1st Round Knock Out, Burdorf was who gained the victory by TKO. The referee stopped the match in 2:15 of the 1st Round due to Strikes.
Burdorf:
Performance:
"I was happy with the performance that I won. I have been out for so long that I think there were a little bit of nerves there. I wanted to keep it standing and show off my striking more because I've worked really, really hard on that. I felt really confident but I think me and him just got too close to each other," said Burdorf.
Burdorf said he saw the opportunity and grabbed Bumbar's leg and took him down right away.
Wrestling or Stand Up?
"I knew his wrestling was not as good as mine, so I knew I could do it, which is probably why I went for it right away. I knew I could stand with him too, it just that being a wrestler for over 10 years, my strength is wrestling, so that where I'm going to go to if the pressure is on. I knew I can take him down and I did right away, Burdorf.
Burdorf said he did feel nervous but that he just spazzed out on Bumbar and tried to pin him down. "That's probably what I'm best at anyway but I would've like to keep it on the feet. Overall, I'm really happy."
Future:
"Everything is perfect. I'm debating whether or not I'm going to take another fight right away or if I'm going to continue to build up my skills. Maybe do more grappling tournaments and boxing fights. I have to talk to my coaches and see what they think would be a good idea for me to do. Other than that, I just want to get better and better," said Burdorf.
Final Comments:
"Just happy I got to defend the belt and looking forward to fighting some more," said Burdorf.
